Every branch, sized and shaded
13,152 groups of animals, from the whole kingdom down to genus. The width of a block is how many lineages sit inside it; the colour is the share of the ones anybody has assessed that are threatened. Click a block to go in.
Rows are levels of the tree. Click to zoom in, drag to pan, hold β or Ctrl and scroll to zoom.
How to read it
Three views over the same tree. Whichever one you are in, a click goes deeper and the path at the top comes back.
A block is as wide as the number of named lineages inside it, next to its neighbours on the same level. Arthropods take four fifths of the kingdom; vertebrates are a sliver.
Green through gold to red is the share of assessed species that are threatened. Grey means nobody has assessed that group yet.
A block wide enough to carry it wears the emoji of its most looked-up resident; narrower ones make do with a white dot. The panel lists everyone inside, and each one links straight through.
