🐻American black bear
아메리카흑곰 또는 아메리카검정곰, 미국흑곰, 아메리카곰(Ursus americanus, 영어: American black bear)은 북아메리카에 널리 서식하는 곰의 일종으로 미국 및 캐나다 대부분의 주에서 발견되며, 일부는 멕시코에 출현하기도 한다. 반달가슴곰과 공통 조상을 지닌다. 몸길이는 150에서 180센티미터이며, 수컷이 암컷보다 더 크다. 잡식성이지만 식단의 대부분은 식물성 물질이며, 회색곰같은 포식자와 같이 살지 않는 이상 그 지역의 생태계의 최상위를 차지한다. 현재 이들에게 가해지는 커다란 위협은 없지만, 아시아흑곰이 점점 없어져 감에 따라 수요를 충족하기 위해 불법으로 이들의 쓸개 등을 채가는 일이 발생하기도 한다. 천적은 인간이며, 1990년대 중반에는 캐나다에서 약 396,000~476,000마리, 미국에서 약 339,000~465,000마리가 서식하는 것으로 추산되었다. 동작이 민첩한 편이어서 시속 50km로 달리며 점프하여 나무에도 오를 수 있다. 이 녀석은 육식 위주의 잡식성도 아니고 초식 위주의 잡식성도 아닌 가리지 않는 잡식성으로 꿀, 곤충, 버섯, 물고기, 산 동물, 죽은 동물, 풀, 나무열매, 종자, 과일, 새순 등 닥치는대로 먹는다.
