Alle dyr på siden med deres status på Rødlisten – og de 296 af 1.698, som IUCN aldrig har vurderet. Et dyr uden vurdering er ikke uden for fare; der er bare ingen, der har undersøgt det endnu.
Both bars show shares of their own total, so the shapes compare even though one counts 98,259 animals and the other 1698. Of the world’s assessed animals, 20% are vulnerable, endangered or critical; of the assessed animals here, 23%.
Everyone already knows about the tiger
The famous endangered animals are famous partly because they are endangered. These six are in the same trouble or worse, and almost nobody reads about them. The number under each is how many people look it up on Wikipedia in a month — for comparison, the axolotl gets 134,426.
“Looked up” is how often people read about the animal on Wikipedia each month. The arrow shows which way the IUCN says the population is heading at its last assessment.
