🦏Javan rhinoceros
Cava gergedanı (Rhinoceros sondaicus), Rhinocerotidae familyasından kalan beş gergedan türünden biridir. En yakın akrabası Hint gergedanıdır. 1,7 m. boyunda ve 2300 kg. ağırlığındadır. Boynuzu en fazla 25 cm. uzunluğundadır. En kısa boynuz uzunluğu olan gergedan çeşididir. Nadir bulunuşu sebebiyle hakkında fazla bir şey bilinmemektedir. Eskiden Cava gergedanı Cava Adası'nın batısından Çin'in güneyine kadar bir alanda yaşardı. Günümüzde ise sadece Cava Adası'nda bulunan Ujung Kulon Milli Parkında yaşamaktadır. Çin tıbbındaki yaygın inanışa göre gergedan boynuzunun şifa verici güçleri olduğuna inanılırdı. Hâlbuki gergedan boynuzunun bilinen hiçbir etkisi bulunmamaktadır. Bu inanış, zaten nesli tehlikede olan bu canlıların avlanmasına yol açarak popülasyonlarını ciddi mânada tehlike altına alınmasına sebep olmuştur. Günümüzde Endonezya'daki Ujung Kulon Milli Parkında son 58 ile 68 arasında bir rakamın kaldığı tahmin edilmektedir.
