Rhinoceros unicornis Linnaeus, 1758

Hint gergedanı (Rhinoceros unicornis), Asya'da yaşayan en büyük gergedan türüdür. Hint gergedanı, eskiden Himalaya Dağlarının çevresinde çok geniş bir alanda yaşardı. Şimdi ise sadece Nepal'deki Chitwan Milli Parkı ve Hindistan'daki Kaziranga Milli Parkı ve Manas Milli Parkında bulunmaktadır. Hint gergedanlarının çok belirgin bir zırhı vardır bu nedenle bazı yerlerde zırhlı gergedanı olarak anılır. Hint gergedanı Cava gergedanıyla birlikte tek boynuzlu gergedanlar grubuna girer. Cava gergedanına göre daha büyüktür. Hint gergedanı 1,7 m boyundadır. Boynuzun uzunluğu ise 25 cm'dir. Hint gergedanının nesli, boynuzları için avlanmadan dolayı tehlikededir. Geleneksel Çin tıbbında gergedan boynuzu, iyileştirici özelliği olduğu düşünüldüğü için kullanılmaktadır. Ana maddesi keratin olan gergedan boynuzunun önemli bir tıbbi etkisi bulunmamaktadır.Ayrıca bu gergedan Afrika kıtasında yaşayan diğer gergedanlardan daha büyük bir türdür. Dünya genelinde Asyalı olarak bilinirler.
