🦡European polecat
긴털족제비 또는 유럽족제비(학명: Mustela putorius), 일반 족제비, 검은색 또는 숲 족제비, 유럽 흰 족제비, 또는 야생 족제비 라고도 하며, 는 유라시아 서부와 북아프리카에서 발견되는 족제비과 동물의 일종이다. 대체적으로 암갈색을 띠며 아랫배 쪽은 연한 색, 얼굴은 어두운 색을 띤다. 이따금 색 변이를 일으켜, 색소 결핍증이나 적발증이 나타나기도 한다. 다른 밍크류와 족제비류에 비해 긴털족제비는 몸길이가 짧고 아담하며, 좀더 튼튼한 골격과 치열을 갖고 있으며 덜 날쌘 편이고, 특히, 자기 영역을 표시하기 위해 고약한 냄새가 나는 액체를 분비하는 동물로 잘 알려져 있다. 다른 족제비류보다 영역 표시를 훨씬 적게 하고, 같은 성을 지닌 다른 동물들과 서식지를 공유한다. 다른 족제비류처럼, 긴털족제비는 일부다처제를 하며, 짝짓기 후에 배란 촉진 없이 곧바로 임신이 가능하다. 보통 초여름에 5~10마리로 이루어진 새끼를 낳고, 2~3개월 후에는 독립한다. 먹이는 작은 설치류와 조류, 양서류, 파충류 등이다. 가끔 이빨로 먹이의 뇌를 찔러 도망치지 못하도록 만들어서, 나중에 먹기 위해서 먹이가 아직 살아있는 채로 굴 속에 보관한다.
