Pteronura brasiliensis Pteronura cinsine bağlı bir su samuru türüdür. Güney Amerika'ya endemik etçil bir memelidir. sansargiller familyasının en uzun üyesidir ve 1.7 metreye kadar erişir. Pteronura brasiliensis tipik olarak üç ile sekiz üyeyi destekleyen aile gruplarıyla yaşayan sosyal bir türdür. Gruplar baskın bir üreme çifti üzerinde merkezlenir ve son derece uyumlu ve işbirlikçidir. Genel olarak barışçıl olmasına rağmen bölgeseldirler ve farklı gruplar arasında saldırganlık gözlemlenmiştir. Pteronura brasiliensis gündüzcül bir türdür, yalnızca gündüz saatlerinde aktiftir. Alarm, saldırganlık ve güvenceyi anlatan farklı sesler belgelenmiştir. Pteronura brasiliensis, kuzey-orta Güney Amerika'da bulunur; çoğunlukla Amazon Nehri boyunca ve Pantanal'da yaşar.
