Nannopterum auritum (R.P.Lesson, 1831)

Kulaklı karabatak (Phalacrocorax auritus), karabatakgiller (Phalacrocoracidae) familyasından bir kuş türü. Kuzey Amerika'da hem sahil kesimleri boyunca hem de iç kesimlerde bulunan tek karabatak türüdür. Genelde deniz kuşlarından sayılan, erişkin kuşun boyu 76 ile 91 cm kadar olup, ağırlığı 1.5 ile 2 kg kadar gelir. Karabataklar için tipik olan torpil şeklinde bir vücudu vardır. Boynu kıvrımlı, büyük olan ayakları perdelidir. Avrupa'da yaşayan karabataklara benzer şekilde gagası kanca biçiminde ve kuvvetlidir. Sayıları oldukça fazladır. Bu kuşlar, çiftliklerde yetişen balıkları da avladıklarından Mississippi Nehri boyunca balık çiftlikleri için problem teşkil ederler.
