🐔Chicken
Tavuk (Latince: Gallus gallus domesticus), sülüngiller familyasından evcilleştirilebilir bir kuş alt türüdür ve genelde çiftliklerde yetiştirilir. Hindistan'da Asya'nın güneydoğusundaki kırmızı Hint kuşundan geldiğine inanılır. 2003 yılında 24 milyar nüfus ile, dünyada en fazla bulunan kuş türüdür. İnsanlara iki çeşit sık kullanılan besin kaynağı sunarlar: etleri ve yumurtaları. Tavuklar uçamayan kuşlardandır ve hepçildir. Tavuklar hayatlarının farklı evrelerinde farklı isimler alırlar. Yeni doğmuş yavrularına civciv, genç ve gelişme çağında olanlara piliç, yumurtlama olgunluğuna henüz ulaşmamış, ergenlik öncesi dönemdeki dişiye yarka, cinsi olgunluğa ulaşmış ergin dişilere tavuk, ergin erkeklere horoz denir.
