Vandellia cirrhosa Valenciennes, 1846

Candiru (Vandellia cirrhosa) Siluriformes takımının Trichomycteridae ailesinden olan Amazon nehrinde yaşayan bir tatlı su balığıdır. Candirular küçük balıklardır, yetişkin Candiru balıkları kan emerken başları şişer ve yaklaşık 40 cm büyüyebilir. Vücudu oldukça saydam yapıya sahip olduğu için suyun içerisinde görünme olasılığı çok düşüktür. Başının etrafında bıyık ve solungaçlar vardır bunları duyu organı olarak kullanır. Amazon nehrinde yaşayan balıkların solungaçlarının üzerinde parazit olarak yaşadığı gibi, Amazon Nehri'nden geçen hayvanların boşaltım sistemine (üretra, vajina, anüs ve penis) kaçarak kan ile beslenmesi ile ünlüdür. Bu nedenle bu balığa vampir balık denilmektedir. Boşaltım sistemine kaçan Candiru balıkları doktor müdahalesiyle çıkarılmazsa ölümlere sebep olabilirler.
