🐾Brown Hyaena
Kahverengi sırtlanın ana yaşam bölgesi Kalahari ve Namib çöllerinin bulunduğu Güney Afrika'dır. Uzunluğu en fazla 100–136 cm, boyu ise en fazla 64–88 cm'dir. Ağırlığı 37 ila 55 kg arasında değişebilir. Benekli sırtlan kadar büyük değildir. Besinini leşlerden ve diğer küçük hayvanları avlayarak çıkarır. Çünkü çöllerde kıt bir ekosistem hakimdir ve kahverengi sırtlan buna uyabilmek için besin yelpazesine meyve ve diğer bitkileri, ölü fokları yemeye ve bazen de fok yavrularını avlamaya başlamıştır. Dünyada yaklaşık olarak 10.000 ferdi kalmıştır.
