🐇Amami rabbit
Pentalagus furnessi Pentalagus cinsine bağlı bir hayvan türüdür. Kısa bacakları, siyah bir postu ve kısa kulakları vardır. Ormanlarda yaşarlar. Bir kerede en fazla iki yavru doğururlar. Gece ortaya çıkarlar, gündüz mağaralar gibi karanlık yerlerde uyurlar. Japonya'ya bağlı Amami Ōshima ve Toku-no-Shima adalarına özgüdürler. Bazen "yaşayan fosil" olarak kabul edilir. Çünkü eskiden Asya'da yaşamış ilkel tavşanlardan geriye sadece bu tür kalmıştır. Pentalagus furnessi nesli tehlikededir. 1921 yılında avlanma yasağı getirlinceye kadar avlandılar. Ama hala insanların getirdiği kediler, köpekler ve firavunfareleri onları avlamaktadır. Ormanların kesilmesi de bir diğer tehdittir.
