🧍Human

Homo sapiens Linnaeus, 1758

Humans are the most abundant and widespread species of primates, characterized by bipedalism, minimal body hair, and large, complex brains enabling the development of advanced technology, culture, and language. Humans are highly social beings and tend to live in complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups, from families and kinship networks to political states. Social interactions between humans have established a wide variety of values, social norms, and rituals, which bolster human society. Curiosity and the human desire to understand and influence the environment have motivated humanity's development of science, philosophy, religion, mythology and other fields of knowledge.

MEAN velocity over the full 100 m: 100/9.58 = 10.44 m/s. Peak instantaneous velocity during that run was higher. An elite sprinter, not a typical adult.

Species-level value synthesised as the mean of: female, male.

By sex

  • Male909 NWaltimo & Kononen 1995, Acta Odontol Scand 53(4):254MEASURED maximum voluntary bite at the MOLAR, n=56 men, SD 177 N. Incisal bite in the same study is 382 N -- about half -- which is why bite position has to travel with the number. Finite-element modelling of a human skull gives a higher 1109-1317 N at the second molar (Wroe et al. 2010, Proc R Soc B 277:3579): models estimate the physiological ceiling, voluntary clenching does not reach it.
  • Female777 NWaltimo & Kononen 1995, Acta Odontol Scand 53(4):254MEASURED maximum voluntary bite at the MOLAR, n=73 women, SD 168 N. Incisal bite in the same study is 325 N.
