🐾European Mole
Krtek obecný (Talpa europaea Linné, 1758) je menší hmyzožravec z čeledi krtkovití, žijící převážně pod zemí. Obývá západní Palearktidu od Pyrenejí po řeky Ob a Irtyš. Podle IUCN patří krtek obecný mezi nejméně ohrožené druhy, celková populace je stabilní, maximálně zjištěné četnosti jsou až 16 jedinců na hektar. V mnoha zemích areálu jeho rozšíření je považován za škůdce v zahradních trávnících a zemědělství. Při budování chodeb tvoří na povrchu typické hromádky zeminy zvané krtina, lidově krtinec. Je celým vývojem a životem vázán na půdu (je tzv. geobiont), přičemž je jediným savcem-geobiontem žijícím v ČR. Dříve česky krt obecný, krtek evropský.
