Інші назви «лінг», «лимонна риба», «чорний лосось», «чорна королівська риба», «риба-сержант», «риба-крабоїд» (в Австралії), «бігун», «кабіо», «ка боп» (у В'єтнамі). У перекладі з грецької назва означає «хребет, що жалить».
