🐱Caracal
De caracal (Caracal caracal) is een slanke, middelgrote, niet gevlekte kat van 6–22 kg met een korte staart en lange oorpluimen. Het dier leeft afhankelijk van het leefgebied van verschillende prooisoorten, voornamelijk knaagdieren en vogels. De caracal komt voor in heel Afrika, het Arabisch Schiereiland, het Midden-Oosten, Centraal- en Zuidwest-Azië tot op het Indiase subcontinent. Hij leeft in droge bossen, savannes, struikgewas, heuvelachtige steppen en dorre bergachtige streken. De soort staat wereldwijd op de lijst van de IUCN als niet-bedreigde soort, ondanks dat er weinig bekend is over de populatieontwikkeling in het grootste deel van zijn verspreidingsgebied. Onder CITES staan de Aziatische populaties in bijlage I en Afrikaanse populaties in bijlage II.
