🐭Lesser capybara
קפיבארה ננסית (שם מדעי: Hydrochoerus isthmius) היא מין של מכרסם ענקי מאמריקה הדרומית ששייך למשפחת הקבייתיים. מין זה הוא מין המכרסם השני בגודלו בעולם לאחר המין הקרוב לו - קפיבארה מצויה. אורכו יכול להגיע למטר ומשקלו ל-28–50 ק"ג. קפיבארה זו מצויה במספר אזורים במזרח פנמה, צפון מערב קולומביה ובמערב ונצואלה. היא חיה ביערות ובביצות טרופיות וחיה הרבה מזמנה בתוך המים או בין צמחי המים. קפיבארה זו מאוד דומה לקרובתה ובעבר הייתה תת-מין שלה. ואולם היא קטנה יותר, נחבאת יותר וחיה בבדידות או בחבורות קטנות היוצאות בשעות בין הערביים לפעילות. הקפיבארה צמחונית וניזונה בעיקר מעשבים.
