🕷️Latrodectus tredecimguttatus
אלמנה שחורה (שם מדעי: Latrodectus tredecimguttatus) הוא מין של עכביש, הידוע בשל הארס העצבי המסוכן שלו. המין נפוץ באזור הים התיכון כולל ישראל, מספרד במערב ועד מרכז אסיה במזרח. באנגלית הכינוי "black widow spider" מתייחס למספר מינים נוספים שתפוצתם שונה, דבר היוצר לעיתים בלבול. צבע הבטן שחור בוהק, הגב בעל שלוש שורות של כתמים אדומים/כתומים או ללא כתמים כלל (מכאן נובע השם הלטיני tredecimguttatus, בעלת שלוש עשרה נקודות). בטנה בעלת פס אדום רוחבי או ללא פס כלל. גודלן של הנקבות מגיע ל-4 ס"מ וגודלם של הזכרים כמחצית מגודל הנקבות, אך רגליהם ארוכות יותר, ובטנם עדינה יותר. האלמנה השחורה ניזונה בעיקר מחרקים, אבל לעיתים אוכלת גם נדלים, מרבי רגליים ועכבישאים אחרים. כמו כן פעמים רבות נצפתה האלמנה כאשר ברשתה עקצנים צהובים. היא טווה רשת דביקה של קורים, וברגע שטרף נלכד ברשת, האלמנה יוצאת - גולשת על הקורים, החוצה ממחבואה, ומשתקת אותו בארסה. עד לשיתוק הקורבן חולפות כ-10 דקות, ובמהלך זמן זה אוחזת האלמנה את הטרף בכוח. לאחר שהטרף שותק מפרישה האלמנה אנזימים מעכלים אל תוך טרפה ונסוגה אל תוך אוהל המחבוא שלה ביחד עם טרפה המשותק, עד תום האכילה. נקבות האלמנה השחורה ידועות בכך שהן טורפות זכרים לאחר שהן מזדווגות עימם, דבר זה מתאפשר הודות לכך שהנקבות גדולות ביחס לזכרים. הנקבות תופסות את הזכר לאחר ההזדווגות ומזריקות לגופו ארס. מכאן מקור שמה של האלמנה, אף על פי שטריפת הזכר לאחר ההזדווגות היא מעשה שרוב העכבישות עושות ולא רק האלמנות. שמה של האלמנה השחורה משמש לעיתים ככינוי לאישה שרצחה את בעלה. במצב של מנוחה העכבישים יושבים בתוך מחסה בלתי-שקוף הנמצא לרוב בתוך שקע בקרקע, חור באדמה או מתחת לאבן. קל להבחין במטווה ובקורי העכביש לפי פקעות הביצים הלבנות-צהבהבות והכדוריות. בתוך כל פקעת מצויות מאות של ביצים ורודות או עכבישונים בהירים או כאלה שהתחילו להתבגר ולהשחיר. גודל הפקעת כ- 10 מ״מ.
