🦭Japanese sea lion
אריה ים יפני (שם מדעי: Zalophus japonicus) הוא מין מסוג אריה ים מצוי. ככל הנראה, אריה הים היפני נכחד בסביבות שנות ה-50. עד ל-2003 נחשב מין זה לתת-מין של אריה ים קליפורני, וכונה בהתאם: Zalophus californianus japonicus ("אריה קליפורני יפני"). בהמשך סווג כמין נפרד. כמה טקסונומים עדיין מחשיבים אותו בתור תת-מין של אריה הים הקליפורני. הם היו נפוצים בים יפן, במיוחד באזורי החוף של הארכיפלג היפני וחצי האי הקוריאני. הם הזדווגו לרוב על חופים חוליים שהיו רחבי ידיים ושטוחים, אך גם על אזורים סלעיים. כיום ניתן לראות פוחלצים ביפן, במוזיאון הטבע הלאומי שבליידן. בנוסף, בבעלות המוזיאון הבריטי פרווה וארבע גולגולות.
