🐔Indian Peafowl
טווס מצוי (שם מדעי: Pavo cristatus), קרוי גם טווס הודי, הוא מין של עוף צבעוני מהסוג טווס, שבוית בעיקר לצורכי נוי (הטווס מהווה אטרקציה פופולרית בגני חיות ופינות חי) אך נפוץ בטבע גם כחיית בר. בתי הגידול הטבעיים שלו הם יערות נשירים פתוחים, ברום של כ-600 עד 1,800 מטרים מעל גובה פני הים. הטווס הוא אוכל-כול ואוכל חרקים. למרות זנבו הארוך הכבד והמפואר הטווס יכול לעוף כאשר יש לו צורך בכך. בשל יופיו והידורו הרב השפיע הטווס על התרבות והדת ברחבי הודו (שם מקורו), אסיה ואירופה, לשם הובא על ידי האדם. קארולוס לינאוס הגדיר את המין לראשונה ונתן לו את שמו המדעי, בו משתמשים גם היום. כאמור הטווס נפוץ היום בעיקר כחיית נוי בשל גופו הכחול הבוהק וזנבו הארוך והמפואר בעל עשרות העיניים הירוקות. ישנם פרטים שבהם מוטציה מסוימת גורמת לטווס להיות לבן כולו, ולעיתים נחשבת בטעות ללבקנות. גם הטווס הלבן פופולרי כחיית נוי. הטווס הוא הציפור הלאומית של הודו ושל איראן.
