🐒Eastern gorilla
גורילה מזרחית (שם מדעי: Gorilla beringei) היא המין הגדול ביותר בסוג גורילה וכן במשפחת ההומינידיים ובסדרת הפרימטים. המין מתחלק לשני תת-מינים – גורילת השפלה המזרחית (Goriila beringei graueri) עם אוכלוסייה המונה 5,000 פרטים, והנדירה שבגורילות – גורילת הרים (Gorilla beringei beringei) עם אוכלוסייה המונה כ-700 פרטים. ישנה אוכלוסיית גורילות הרים בפארק הלאומי ביווינדי שבדרום אוגנדה, אותה שוקלים לסווג כתת-מין נוסף. הגורילה המזרחית חיה ביערות אגן קונגו ומרכז אפריקה – המדרונות הוולקנים של רואנדה, מזרח הרפובליקה הדמוקרטית של קונגו ויער ביווינדי שבדרום אוגנדה. במהלך היום הגורילות בעיקר אוכלות, בלילה הן בונות קנים על ידי קיפול מעל הצמחייה, בדרך כלל על הקרקע. כמו שאר הגורילות, הגורילה המזרחית היא צמחונית וניזונה מעלים ופירות.
