🪲Darwin's bark spider
עכביש-קליפה דארוויני (שם מדעי: Caerostris darwini) הוא מין עכביש ממשפחת הגלגלניים הטווה רשת קורים ענקית שיכולה להגיע לאורך 25 מ' ולהכיל 900-28,000 סמ"ר. זוהי רשת הקורים הגדולה בעולם, ובנוסף חוטי הרשת חזקים יותר מקוולר. הוא קרוי על שם החוקר המפורסם צ'ארלס דרווין. עכביש זה מצוי במדגסקר ובעל הבדלים קיצוניים בין בני הזוג: הנקבות גדולות בהרבה מהזכרים ויכולות לטרוף אותם בקלות. הנקבות יכולות להגיע לאורך 18-20 מ"מ בעוד אורך הזכרים פחות מ-6 מ"מ. לעכבישים מבנה כדורי והם בעלי גוף כהה או אדמדם בהיר ובעלי רגליים שעירות מעט. העכביש מקים את הקורים מעל לגדת נהר או אגם רדוד - מקום בו לא נמצאת תחרות עם עכבישים אחרים. מעל הנהר הוא מקים את רשתו במהירות ויורה אותה לעבר הקצה השני של הנהר. בסופו של דבר רשת ענקית קמה ומפילה חרקים כמו שפיריות או בריומאים אותם טורף העכביש.
