שלדג גמדי (שם מדעי: Alcedo atthis) הוא עוף הנמנה עם משפחת השלדגיים שבסדרת הכחלאים. שמו בערבית צייד א(ל)סמכ, כלומר דייג. אורכו של השלדג הגמדי 14-17 ס"מ, משקלו 20-37 גרם ומוטת כנפיו כ-25 ס"מ. אורך מקורו, הגדול יחסית לגופו, כ-4 ס"מ. נפוץ באירואסיה, צרפת, רוסיה, מקדוניה, בולגריה, נורווגיה, ספרד, טורקיה וצפון אפריקה. השלדג הגמדי איננו מקנן בישראל.ונפוץ בעיקר בצפון ישראל ומרכזה. השלדג הגמדי נודד באזורים בעולם בהם הנהרות והנחלים קופאים בחורף. הוא דוגר ליד נחלים ואגמים עשירים בדגה. הביצים הלבנות והחלקות מוטלות בגומחת הקן הנמצא בקצה מחילה, שאורכה 60-90 ס"מ, בגדות נהרות ונחלים. הוא ניזון בעיקר מדגים קטנים, הניצודים בצלילה אנכית.
