🐂Aurochs
שור הבר או בקר בר הידוע גם כאורוקס (שם מדעי: Bos primigenius) הוא מין שנכחד בסוג פר. היה נפוץ בכל אירופה ובאזורים רבים באסיה ובאפריקה, ומשערים שממנו פותחו כמה מגזעי הבקר המשמשים את האדם. אורכו של שור הבר היה כשלושה מטרים וגובהו הגיע ל-1.8 מטרים. צבעו היה שחור ולאורך גבו נמתח פס לבן. לפי הממצא הארכיאו-זואולוגי השור התקיים בתחומי ארץ ישראל עד שלהי תקופת הברזל, בידי המדע שפע ראיות על קיומו במרחב המערב אסייתי של שור הבר. בתנ"ך מוזכר הוא כבעל חיים מוכר עד תקופתו של דוד המלך, ומאוחר יותר בספרי הנביאים[דרוש מקור]. במונומנטים אשורים מתואר המרדף והציד אחריו בזמן השושלות הקדומות. יוליוס קיסר ראה ותיאר אותו בגרמניה ביער הרקניה, ועד ימי הביניים לא נכחד מאירופה, על פי עדויות אחרונות שור הבר נכחד כליל מן העולם בשנת 1627 בפולין. גודלו ועצמתו של שור הבר הרשימו את האדם מאז ימי קדם, האדם הקדמון נהג לצוד אותו כדי לאכלו והוא גם מופיע בציורי מערות, בסמל מולדובה ובסמלה של מקלנבורג.
