🦭Amazonian manatee
תחש נהרות אמאזוני (שם מדעי: Trichechus inunguis), מין תחש נהרות החי במימיו המתוקים של אגן האמזונס. ניתן למוצאו בברזיל, בפרו, בקולומביה, באקוודור, בגויאנה ובוונצואלה. אורכו של תחש הנהרות האמאזוני מגיע עד לכ-2.8 מטרים. הנקבות גדולות מהזכרים, ומשקלן עשוי לנוע בין 360 ל-540 קילוגרמים. צבעו של תחש הנהרות האמאזוני אפור, אולם לעיתים הוא נראה כבעל גוונים חומים. עורו עבה ומקומט, והוא חסר שיער (פרט לאזור השפם). מאפיין ייחודי (כחלק ממשפחת תחשי הנהרות) הוא התחלופה המתמדת של השיניים הטוחנות - שיניים חדשות מגיחות מאחורי הלסת ומחליפות את השיניים הבלויות שבקדמתה. התחש חבר במשפחת תחשי הנהרות, שייחודית בכך שחבריה הם היונקים הימיים היחידים הניזונים מצמחים (פרט לתחש המשכן). לתחש הנהרות האמאזוני אין טורפים משמעותיים, פרט לאדם. ההזדווגות עשויה להתרחש במהלך כל השנה. תקופת ההיריון נמשכת כשנה, ובסופה ממליטה הנקבה על-פי רוב גור יחיד. הן הזכרים והן הנקבות מגיעים לבגרות מינית בגיל שלוש שנים לערך. תוחלת החיים בבר איננה ידועה, אולם ידוע על פרטים שחיו מעל 12.5 שנים בשבי.
