🦩African Sacred Ibis
מגלן קדוש אפריקני או איביס שחור ראש (שם מדעי: Threskiornis aethiopicus) הוא מין של עוף מים מתת-משפחת המגלנים ומהסוג מגלן קדוש, שמצוי כיום בעיקר באפריקה שמדרום לסהרה; בעבר היה נפוץ גם במזרח התיכון, בעיקר במצרים, ועד דרום-מזרח עיראק. המגלן היה בעל חיים מקודש במצרים העתיקה, ובמיתולוגיה המצרית, האל תחות מתואר כבעל ראש מגלן. במיתולוגיה המצרית המגלן היווה סמל מקודש, מכיוון שייצג את האל תחות. בכתביהם של הרודוטוס ופליניוס הזקן נכתב שהמגלנים הגנו על מצרים בפלישות של נחשים מכונפים, ובסיפורים אחרים נכתב שהם אכלו זבובים שגרמו למגפות. בתרבות המצרית העתיקה, מגלנים היו מוקרבים ונקברים כמומיות במשך מאות שנים. מספר העופות שנקברו לצרכים טקסיים מוערך בכ-8 מיליון. מומיות של מגלנים הובאו לאירופה על ידי צבאו של נפוליאון. המגלנים היו נפוצים מאוד במצרים עד המאה ה-18, אך במהלך המאה ה-19 נעלמו כמעט לחלוטין מאזור זה. במהלך המאה ה-20 עלתה תפוצתם בחלקים הדרומיים של אפריקה. בתי הגידול המועדפים על המגלן הם ביצות ומשטחי בוץ, בפנים היבשה או ליד החוף; אך לעיתים מגלנים נצפים גם בשטחים חקלאיים ובמטמנות.
