Aequorea victoria (Murbach & Shearer, 1902)

Aequorea victoria aussi appelée Crystal Jelly est une espèce de méduses (plus exactement une Hydroméduse) bioluminescente rencontrée sur les côtes ouest de l’Amérique du Nord. Aequorea victoria est particulièrement connue pour sa capacité à émettre une lumière fluorescente (pour faciliter la prédation sur des proies) nécessitant une protéine, la GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) qui, lorsqu’elle est excitée, émet de la lumière vers 504 nm. Cette protéine présente un intérêt en recherche en biologie en tant que marqueur.
