Turritopsis dohrnii (Weismann, 1883)

Turritopsis dohrnii on pieni, biologisesti kuolematon polyyppieläinlaji, joka elää trooppisten alueiden vesistöissä. Se on yksi esimerkki harvoista eläimistä, jotka kykenevät palautumaan täysin sukukypsymättömään tilaan. Laji tunnetaan sen harvinaislaatuisista ominaisuuksista, jonka vuoksi lajin meduusavaihetta on kutsuttu "kuolemattomaksi meduusaksi". Turritopsis-suvun taksonomia on vielä vakiintumaton, mutta siihen kuuluu mahdollisesti kymmenen lajia. Aiemmin suurin osa näistä luokiteltiin samaan lajiin nimen Turritopsis nutricula alle. 2000-luvun tutkimukset ovat kuitenkin paljastaneet, että Koillis-Atlantin, Välimeren, Uuden-Seelannin ja Japanin polyyppieläimet eivät olekaan samaa lajia. Välimeressä elävä biologisesti kuolematon Turritopsis-laji tunnetaan siksi nykyään nimellä Turritopsis dohrnii.
