🪲Drugstore beetle

Stegobium paniceum (Linnaeus, 1758)

Leipäkuoriainen eli leipäpukki (Stegobium paniceum) kuuluu puunkaivajien (Anobiidae) kuoriaisheimoon. Aikuinen leipäkuoriainen on 3 mm pitkä, ruosteenruskea ja tiheäkarvainen kuoriainen. Toukka on 3 mm pitkä, käyrä ja vaalea. Leipäkuoriainen esiintyy luonnossa mm. käävissä, mutta elää myös leivässä, kekseissä, makaronissa, mausteissa ja rohdoksissa, joihin toukka kaivaa käytäviä. Leipäkuoriainen on aiemmin ollut todellinen vitsaus merenkulkijoille, sillä se tuhosi laivojen laivakorppuvarastot. Leipäkuoriaiset ovat yleisempiä lämpimillä leveysasteilla. Leipäkuoriainen elää symbioosissa hiivasienen kanssa.
