Attacus atlas (Linnaeus, 1758)

Atlaskehrääjä (Attacus atlas) on Kaakkois-Aasiassa esiintyvä yöperhonen. Se on eräs maailman kookkaimmista perhoslajeista ja sen siipien pinta-ala on kaikista perhoslajeista suurin. Atlaskehrääjän siivet ovat punaruskeat ja kunkin siiven keskellä on kolmiomainen, läpinäkyvä alue. Siipien kärkiväli on 25–30 cm. Aikuinen atlaskehrääjä ei syö mitään ja sen elinkaari kestääkin vain pari viikkoa. Muiden heimon lajien tapaan naaras ei juuri liiku paikasta, jossa se koteloitui. Ollessaan valmis parittelemaan naaras erittää ilmaan feromonia, jonka tuoksu houkuttelee koiraita paikalle. Parittelun jälkeen naaras munii lehtien alapinnoille ja toukat kuoriutuvat paria viikkoa myöhemmin. Toukka kasvaa 11,5 cm:n pituiseksi. Se on polyfagi, joka syö etupäässä sitruksien sekä muutamien muiden puiden, kuten guavan ja durianin lehtiä. Kotelovaihe kestää noin neljä viikkoa. Toukan kotelokopakseen kehräämää ruskeaa silkkiä hyödynnetään kaupallisesti ja sitä kutsutaan fagara-silkiksi. Näyttävyytensä vuoksi atlaskehrääjä on suosittu laji perhospuutarhoissa.
