Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus, 1762)

Keltakuumehyttynen (Aedes aegypti) on maailman laajuisesti esiintyvä hyttyslaji. Sitä esiintyy lauhkean vyöhykkeen eteläosissa ja tätä lämpimämmillä seuduilla. Keltakuumehyttysen leviämistä rajoittaa kylmät talvet, joista sen munat eivät selviydy. Keltakuumehyttynen levittää pistämällä erityisesti keltakuumetta ja denguekuumetta. Lajin voi tunnistaa sen valkoisista kuvioista. Keltakuumehyttysen aktiivista aikaa ovat aamun sarastuksen tunnit sekä iltapäivä ja ilta jatkuen pari tuntia pimeäntulon jälkeen. Se lisääntyy seisovissa vesiastioissa ja lammikoissa. Keltakuumehyttynen on verrattain huono lentäjä. Se ei yleensä liiku 400 metriä edemmäs synnyinpaikastaan, joten se levittäytyy pikemminkin ajoneuvojen ja ihmisten mukana. Eräs tutkijaryhmä on ehdottanut lajin tieteellisen nimen muuttamista muotoon Stegomyia aegypti (Reinert et al. 2004), mutta tätä ehdotusta ei ole vielä laajasti hyväksytty tiedeyhteisössä.
