🐐Goat
المَعْز أو المَعْز المستأنس، وواحده المَاعِز، نوع من الوعليات، يُربى غالبًا ماشية. وقد استؤنس من المعز البري الذي يعيش في جنوب غرب آسيا وشرق أوروبا. ينتمي المعز إلى فصيلة البقريات، أي أنه قريب من الخراف. وكان من أوائل الحيوانات التي استؤنست في إيران منذ نحو 10.000 عام. استُخدم المعز لإنتاج الحليب واللحوم والصوف والجلود في معظم أنحاء العالم. وغالبًا ما يُحول حليب المعز إلى جبن. وفي عام 2022، تجاوز عدد المعز في العالم 1.1 مليار، منها 150 مليونًا في الهند. يظهر المعز في الأساطير والفولكلور والأديان في أنحاء عديدة من العالم، تتضمن أسطورة أمالثيا الكلاسيكية، والماعز الذي جرّ عربة الإله النوردي ثور، وماعز يول الإسكندنافي، وداكشا برأس ماعز في الهندوسية. وفي المسيحية والشيطانية، يُصور الشيطان أحيانًا على شكل ماعز.
